The global climate is changing – energy efficiency is an important factor in reducing CO2 emissions
Exactly my kind of climate. That is the corporate claim of Kampmann. It relates to the personal comfort climate that we create with the help of our products in any kind of room. For that to be and remain that way, we work every day in our Research and Development Centre, optimise our units even further and develop new products. The staff at Research and Development Centre are thus ultimately climate researchers.
Of course, by the term “climate researchers” we actually understand something different. And we do not want to be as arrogant as to compare our highly esteemed R&D staff with such climatologists, who try to comprehend the extent of global warming. Our highly complex global climate is changing without a doubt and the human race has paid a significant part in it. It is hardly possible to estimate the effects of climate change. One thing is certain, that it will have serious consequences – even with a more moderate increase in temperature of two degrees Celsius (politicians committed to a 2-degree target at the G8 Summit in L'Aquila 2009), the increase in the sea level wouldn’t be stopped. Habitats and cultural areas such as small islands or settlements near the Arctic would be destroyed. A study commissioned by the World Bank in 2012 presumes an increase of 4 degrees. This scenario would have disastrous consequences – even for large industrial nations The sciences agree to a large majority that the greenhouse gases released by human beings is responsible for the global warming, first and foremost carbon dioxide (CO2), which above all arises when burning fossil energy sources.
Provisions such as the Energy Saving Regulation and the Eco Design Regulation are political means on the way towards observing the 2-degree threshold. For, even if Germany is going in the right direction with the exit from nuclear and fossil-fuel energy, fossil fuels still form a large part of our power mix. This is where the “climate researchers” of Kampmann and global climate researchers come together: the main focus in the Research and Development Centre in Lingen is the increase in energy efficiency – and thus a reduction in CO2 emissions.
It goes without saying that the Research and Development Centre is not a facility with the task of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. The reason for its existence is, above all, of a scientific nature – without question. But Kampmann is aware of their responsibility that goes hand in hand with manufacturing energy consumption relevant products. We also want to use our technical expertise and our leadership in innovations to live up to our pioneer role we hold in Europe and particularly in Germany in matters of climate protection. We thus greet the new requirements of the Eco Design Regulation and are pleased to call a laboratory our own with the Research and Development Centre, with which we prove the energy efficiency of our products and, moreover, can improve them. For, in the same way “Exactly my kind of climate” applies for home, office and workplace, “exactly my kind of climate” should also apply for our world.
